Job Opportunity for a General Ledger Accountant
Nakilat is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to oversee and manage the general ledger operations for its subsidiaries and joint venture vessel entities. This role ensures compliance with IFRS, accurate reconciliation of financial records, and alignment with company accounting policies. The GL Accountant will work closely with the General Accounting Head and IT teams to implement system integrations and drive automation and process optimization.

Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Management – Subsidiaries & JV Vessel Entities
- Oversee general ledger activities ensuring completeness and compliance with IFRS standards.
- Maintain and reconcile GL accounts including vessel operations, intercompany balances, and provisions.
- Apply proper accounting for vessel acquisition, depreciation, and operational costs.
Financial Closings – Monthly, Quarterly, Year-End
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closings for vessel entities.
- Review and post complex journal entries, including accruals and deferrals.
- Conduct variance analysis and report on financial performance.
Loan & Swap Transactions – SAP
- Post loan receipts, principal, and interest payments to GL accounts.
- Schedule loan repayments and calculate accrued interest.
- Reconcile loan interest with swap agreements in SAP.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP standards.
Intercompany & Foreign Transactions
- Handle intercompany reconciliations across entities.
- Manage multi-currency transactions and record FX gains/losses.
System Optimization & Automation
- Identify and automate manual accounting processes to enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with IT to integrate finance systems and automate closing workflows.
- Support financial projects, data migrations, and system upgrades.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- Preferred: CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CA, or CMA certification
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in a similar accounting or finance role
- Industry experience in shipping, logistics, or maritime preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and financial reporting principles
- Proficiency in SAP (especially finance-related modules)
- Expertise in general ledger management, intercompany accounting, and financial analysis
